With younger children, I teach reading and spelling using a range of practical resources, including: puppets, magnetic letters, playdough, flashcards, small world toys, online games and much more. Some children require one-to-one tuition, whereas others learn better when working in a group. Sometimes a mixture of one-to-one tuition and group tuition gives excellent results. Tuition groups have a maximum of 8 children at a time, which is the optimum number for effective learning. I believe that it is important to get children interested in learning to read as soon as they are ready. I have set up Phonic Dots, for tiny tots, to give children a head start in their reading journey.
Eleven plus and KS2 SATs preparation groups have a maximum of 4 children. This enables optimum one to one support within the group.
My aim is to offer a variety of reading tuition options to suit everyone's budget and learning preferences. I have vast experience of teaching children across the primary age range, and offer groups and one-to-one tuition for EYFS (3 to 5yrs), KS1 (5 to 7yrs) and KS2 (7 to 11yrs). Phonic Dots Play and Stay is aimed at children aged 2 to 5 years.
Children really missed out on their learning due to the pandemic and I am here to help close the gaps in learning for your child.
'We are so pleased with the progress our son has made with Helma. She understands that our son's learning is not just sitting for an hour. Helma provides lots of movement and activities. We are thrilled with our son's progress. Thank you Helma.' Laura
Helma is amazing. My son has been going to Helma for a good few months now. He struggles to engage whenever I try to teach him something but Helma has an amazing ability to engaging him. She is kind and caring. My son has come on no end since starting with Helma. I cannot thank her enough for all her hard work.
'Helma is very patient and adapts teaching methods so everyone can understand. I would highly recommend Helma for teaching your child to read.'
